Do you need to update your festive playlist? If you do, here are some more modern christmas songs that deserve your love!

Billie Marten’s cover of White Christmas is enchanting; she brings her beautiful guitar melodies and haunting vocals to the the well known Bing Crosby song and makes it soft, folky and magical.

Master of pop and jazz, Laufey and her gift of a christmas EP are enough to transport you back in time. Her sprightly cover of Winter Wonderland is heavenly, and makes you feel it should be sung by no one else.

Released in 2014, Los Campesinos!’s Christmas EP stays true to their distinct, rough, indie rock sound. With addictive guitar licks and gritty vocals, the songs have a unique feel, balanced with a sense of mellow festivity.

Coldplay’s Christmas single is timeless. A melancholy song, where Chris Martin’s iconic vocals are accompanied by a twinkling piano. The style of the song is consistent with Coldplay’s classic feel, with somber and comforting festive lyrics.

A lovely folky/indie pop christmas track, focusing on the feelings that arise from being with family at Christmas, and the change in growing up over the years. It is a sweet, nostalgic song and just as heartfelt as the rest of Lexie Carroll’s discography.

Conan Gray’s seasonal track is stunning and nostalgic, with reflective lyrics and a steady guitar pattern. Released only this year, ‘Holidays’ slots in well among the rest of his discography while adding a festive twinkle, and reminiscing on his Christmas childhood memories.

Phoebe Bridgers’ christmas covers are mellow interpretations of classics, especially ‘So Much Wine’ – most well known for its feature of Paul Mescal on backing vocals, but a lovely rendition in itself. The whole EP is perfect for the transition of Christmas Eve into Christmas Day.
